From Worker to Daughter or Son

Recently, I heard the Lord say it was time for a prepositional shift from “for” to “with.”

He continued, “I appreciate you wanting to work “for” me. I know your service is out of great devotion and love. There is an element of true surrender in this working “for” me.  But I created you not to be my worker, but to be my son or daughter. I want to be “with” you. You abiding in me and Me abiding in you.

It seems like such a small shift, but you will find the shift monumental in your life and ministry. The more you are able to work “with” me, the more you will connect with others working “with” me.

When you are with me, you will see what I see, and feel what I feel.  You will respond like I respond.

Many of you started “with” me but have slipped into working for me.  One can’t slip back- It is a choice to come back “with” me.

“As you live in union with me as your source, fruitfulness will stream from within you but when you live separated from me you are powerless. John 15:5 TPT

As children, we consistently had chores to do around the house. In some sense those chores were done for Dad so he could concentrate on earning a living to support the family. While writing a Father’s Day card to my dad, memories rushed back of times I spent with my dad.  Those fond memories weren’t of doing chores FOR Dad, but of times I worked WITH him. While working with Dad I could accomplish things I couldn’t do alone. Looking back, I realize he was doing most of the work, but I felt significant because I was working with him.  What amazing things could we accomplish if we worked with our Father God? I wonder if we would see less of people building their own kingdom and jockeying for position in the body of Christ if we would all shift into working with God the Father.  Our significance would be from what we did with him and His power flowing through us. The joy we could operate in, like when I went to “work” with my dad, would be attractive to those seeking significance in their life.  I wonder how our worn out, busy lives working for God appear to those who don’t know Jesus.

Father, forgive us for seeing you as a boss to work for, instead of a Father to be with. Although there are many needs around us and much we could do for you, we want to live in union with you as our source (John 15:5 TPT) so we can join you in what you are doing around us.  We want to be conduits of your power, grace and love. Help us to be clear reflections of you.
