GUIDELINES FOR PRAYING ON SITE
God is asking us to be actively involved in praying for our communities, state, and nation. One of the best ways is follow the leading of the Lord as He guides us to important sites to pray. These guidelines will help us to be faithful and effective.
Assignment
1. Know what the Lord has assigned you to do. This helps you to stay focused.
Just because you “see” something does not make it your responsibility.
2. Know and stay in your realm of authority.
Confronting principalities and powers should only be done with a group under apostolic leadership.
3. Know the authority you have.
I like to picture this as the Father sending me to deliver His message, like a child might say, “Dad said…”
4. Seek the timing of the Lord for the assignment.
5. If this is new to you, you might want to start by praying for your neighborhood or your children’s school or your city hall.
Ask the Lord to give you connections with others praying in your area.
Preparation
1. Prepare yourself by repenting for known sin and whatever Holy Spirit shows you.
Get healing and deliverance before going on strategic prayer assignments.
2. Ask people to pray for you and your family before, during and after the prayer assignment.
3. Research where you are going so you have a general knowledge of the site.
Dig deep about specific areas as the Lord is leading.
4. Prepare specific scriptures to decree concerning what God desires at the site where praying.
If discretion is important, have them in a document on your phone or print the scriptures out on index cards or in a pamphlet like tourists might carry.
5. Pick your team wisely. Choose those who “play well with others” and understand staying under authority.
On-site
1. If you are not the leader, follow the leader. If you are the leader, follow the Holy Spirit.
2. If possible, worship in a private setting before going out to pray to enthrone the Lord over you and the prayer assignment.
3. Repent as the Lord shows anything that needs to be repented of.
4. Decree what the Lord or His word shows you is His will for a location.
5. While on site don’t draw attention to yourself. Fit in with what is occurring around you.
This is especially true at government sites. For example, pray in your normal voice with eyes open, without bowing your head.
6. Focus on what God is doing in an area or what He desires to do. Avoid the temptation to focus on the what the enemy is doing.
After the Prayer Assignment
1. Thank the Lord for His revelation and protection. Ask if there is anything else you need to do. Pray over each team member and cut off this assignment and declare they are ready to move into the new.
2. Stay in a place of humility and don’t expect backlash. (I have seen people so excited about what occurred on the prayer assignment that they step into a place of pride and think they have done so much for the Lord that they will probably get backlash and they do!)
